Gear up for new season

No foolin' around, now is the time to prepare for hunting trips

Summer isn't hunting season, but it is hunting preparation season. Why wait until the night before you head out into the field this fall when you can get some things ready right now? There is no better time to make sure licenses and applications are in order, lodging arrangements are made and guides and outfitters booked, if that’s the route you choose to take. Also, be sure to get in the field a few times with your dog. Like any other outdoors enthusiast, it might need time to work itself back into shape.

First, it’s time to make sure hunting and fishing licenses are updated. Go to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department license link for complete details.

Those looking to line up guides and outfitters can find information here.

Also, take some time to get to know landowners in the areas you hope to hunt. Offer to help them out, or share your harvest. You are more likely to gain access to lands if the landowners know you as a good steward of the land.

And remember, fishing season never closes in North Dakota but you still need to update your license. After you've got your hunting gear in order, take a pole and hit the water. Go to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department for all of your hunting and fishing questions.
