Explain these North Dakota delicacies and rank them. What is… Fleischkuekle, Kuchen, Lefse, Knoephla Soup
Fleischkuekle: It's like a hamburger meat patty. It’s wrapped with fried bread, and served at every fundraiser in North Dakota. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, It’s like a hot pocket with a beef patty inside. You cut it open, you put some ketchup, maybe some pickles in there, load it up. It’s very good!

Kuchen: It’s basically a puff pastry pie crust with a custard filling. You can do peach, apple, plain custard, strawberry, and rhubarb is really good. It’s basically at every North Dakota wedding. But also just have it for breakfast.

Lefse: Lefse is a potato tortilla essentially. It feels very festive towards the holidays. I usually put a lot of butter and cinnamon and sugar. Warm it up and it’s chefs kiss!

Knoephla Soup: Knoephla Soup on a chilly North Dakota winter day is the best thing. It’s dough balls and it’s in this cream-based soup with potatoes, dough balls, shaved carrots, and probably onions. You can also do knoephla with sauerkraut and sausage as well.

What does it mean to you to get to be involved with ND Tourism?
We have actually always dreamed about working with North Dakota Tourism. I think anyone who knows us, knows that we are extremely passionate about our home state – what it is, how beautiful it is, and the people that are there are just the best people ever. So partnering with North Dakota Tourism is so important to us because we want everyone to experience the beauty of North Dakota like we did growing up. Listen – I won't rest until no one asks me if it’s the same state as Mount Rushmore. I won’t be done until that’s over!

Tell us some of your favorite lines of the song and why you chose them.
Krista: We grew up with the slogan being “Be Legendary” as it still is today. There’s a line in the song that goes “there’s legendary in the ordinary everyday life.” And it’s true – I believe it!

Kendra: I love the line “Nobody here’s a stranger. Always a helping hand. One deep breath of this, you’ll understand.” Because I truly think the second you step into the state and you experience it for the first time, you understand why we love it so much and why everybody who lives there loves it so much. It’s so so beautiful. It’s something you can’t get anywhere else and you understand that when you take that first deep breath.

How would you describe North Dakota to someone who has never been there?
I would tell them about the wonderful wide-open spaces that you can see for miles and miles. I would talk about the beautiful sunsets. The sunsets are the prettiest you’ve ever seen and when the sun fully sets, you look up and can see a million stars in the sky. I would tell people that the state is severely underrated – don't make it your 49th or 50th state to visit. There’s so much beauty in the simplicity of the nature. Everything is very serene – the lakes, the rivers, the Badlands, all the wild animals, the bison, the wild horses. There’s also beauty in the people. These people are the most hardworking, honest, welcoming people you’ll ever meet. So even if it is your first time in North Dakota, you’re not going to feel like a stranger, you’re not going to feel like an outsider, you're going to feel right at home. You’re going to feel like family the first time you go there.
