The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane (1895)
Experience the American Civil War through the eyes of a young Union soldier struggling with fear, courage, and the realities of battle. Discover this powerful story of bravery, published the same year Fort Buford closed.
Join us on the first Saturday of every month for Reading on the Frontier, a book club exploring the titles commonly found in late 19th-century military post libraries. Each session places the selected work in its historical context, examining why it may have circulated at Fort Buford and what it reveals about the social and cultural life of a 19th-century military post.
If you have any questions please call the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center at (701) 572-9034, or email Nicholas Kusnierek at [email protected]
This free, family-friendly event is part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday.
