November Book: “Astoria” by Washington Irving.
Join us on the first Saturday of every month for Reading on the Frontier, a book club exploring the titles commonly found in late 19th-century military post libraries. Each session places the selected work in its historical context, examining why it may have circulated at Fort Buford and what it reveals about the social and cultural life of a 19th-century military post.
Our November selection: Astoria by Washington Irving. Published in 1836, “Astoria” offers an adventurous look at John Jacob Astor’s bold attempt to establish a fur trading empire in the Pacific Northwest.
If you have any questions please call the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center at (701) 572-9034, or email Nicholas Kusnierek at [email protected]
