Timeless Traditions: Punched Tin Lanterns

Join us at the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center near Williston for "Timeless Traditions: Punched Tin Lanterns" on Saturday, October 10, from 2-3 p.m. This free, hands-on workshop is designed for participants aged 8 and up, including children and beginner adults. As part of the popular Timeless Traditions series, which occurs on the second Saturday of each month, this session invites you to explore the practical and decorative skills of the 19th-century frontier. Participants will learn about the history of lighting challenges on the frontier and witness a demonstration of making punched tin lanterns—beautiful pieces crafted by creating patterned holes in thin sheets of tin that allow candlelight to shine through. Attendees will then create their own tin punch lantern to take home. Suitable for all skill levels, this family-friendly event emphasizes history, creativity, and old-fashioned ingenuity, with all materials provided.
