April 26, 2026 9:00am to 5:00pm

Celebrate the historic moment when the Lewis and Clark Expedition reached the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence during a day of hands-on activities and programs Sunday, April 26, 9 a.m.-5 pm, at the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center near Williston.

Throughout the day, explore the people, skills, and discoveries that shaped this pivotal chapter in American history. The free event is open to families, homeschool groups, and history enthusiasts of all ages. Drop in anytime to participate in hands-on stations, crafts, and interpretive activities designed for all ages. Activities include a map and navigation station where you can practice using a compass, compare historic and modern maps, and create an expedition map.

Additional stations will demonstrate practical frontier skills such as knot tying and survival techniques used by explorers traveling across the northern Plains. Learn about the plants and animals encountered by the Corps of Discovery and try nature journaling inspired by the landscapes surrounding the confluence.

Short interpretive talks titled “When They Were Here—Lewis and Clark at the Confluence” will be offered at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. The presentations will highlight what occurred during the expedition’s time at this historic crossroads and its lasting impact.

Families with young children can attend interactive story times designed for explorers ages 7 and younger at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This event is part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating our country’s 250th birthday.
