Fort Mandan State Historic Site near Washburn is hosting “Watercolor En Plein Air” on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fort Mandan Seaman Shelter. The event is free, and all ages are welcome.
En plein air is a French expression meaning “out in the air.” Learn about the concept of watercolor painting in nature. Select a location on the grounds and begin painting, incorporating techniques including layering, playing with light, and drawing inspiration from nature. All supplies will be provided. Staff will be available to provide assistance.
Leashed dogs alongside their owners are welcome in the Fort Mandan Visitor Center. Visitors have praised the site as a perfect destination for history buffs and their furry companions.
The Fort Mandan State Historic Site is located at 2576 Eighth St. SW, Washburn. Fort Mandan State Historic Site and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center are managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sept. 30.
