Discover the beauty of traditional Scandinavian crewel embroidery during a hands-on class from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn. This workshop introduces participants ages 12 and up to the fundamentals of crewel stitching, a wool-on-linen embroidery technique that has decorated homes for centuries.

Beginners are welcome, and no prior embroidery experience is required. The class includes instruction, all materials, and admission to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center galleries. Water and coffee will be available. Participants should bring a sack lunch, and those ages 12 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost is $25 for ages 12 to 17 and $30 for adults. Space is limited. Register by Thursday, Jan. 22, at CrewelEmbroidery.eventbrite.com.

The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan State Historic Site are managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The Interpretive Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort Mandan State Historic Site is open for guided tours; check in at the Interpretive Center.
