Located 12 miles northwest of Valley City in one of the most scenic river valleys in the region, Lake Ashtabula offers visitors a wide range of recreation opportunities for every season of the year. Fishing and snowmobiling are available in the winter while the spring and fall bring a beautiful view of the migrating waterfowl. Summertime offers an array of activities such as fishing, boating camping, swimming, and picnicking. 

Lake Ashtabula has three designated swimming areas, dining, and seven boat launching ramps maintained for access around the entire lake. All campsites have access to clean drinking water, restrooms, and most are equipped with playgrounds and picnic facilities. The Corps of Engineers operate seven recreation areas around Lake Ashtabula, providing a variety of facilities and services. They also actively manage 14 separate wildlife areas on the lake which provide quality habitat for many wildlife species.
