Welk Homestead State Historic Site near Strasburg is hosting free family-friendly activities to promote learning and fun for adults and children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
June 28, Pollinator Talk, 1-3 p.m. Elisha Mueller, a conservation biologist with North Dakota Game and Fish Department, will talk about the importance of pollinators. Then get the buzz on beekeeping as Touch of Honey from Linton shares the sweet secrets about bees.
June 28, Kite Flying, 1-3 p.m. Decorate your own kite with site interpreters, then send it soaring and take it home for more high-flying fun!
July 5, Blacksmith Demonstration, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bob McCay and Rick Wengel will share their knowledge of blacksmithing and use of the coal forge.
July 5, Fabric Arts Demonstrations, 1-3 p.m. Discover the art of rug making and cross stitch through demonstrations and activities.
July 19, Lanette's Craft Room, 1-3 p.m. Spend the afternoon creating farm animal crafts.
The Welk Homestead State Historic Site illustrates the history of agriculture in the early 20th century, German Russian culture and architecture, and the career of bandleader Lawrence Welk, who grew up on the farm. While at the site, take a selfie with the new Lawrence Welk statue.
