Get In Contact
The public is invited to the Monthly Movie Matinee screening at the Pembina State Museum on Saturday, Aug. 30. “Why Treaties?” is a one-hour documentary produced for Lakeland PBS. The free screenings will begin at 12:30, 2, and 3:30 p.m. Pop and candy will be available for sale in the Museum Store.
“Why Treaties?” examines the historical context of Minnesota land cession treaties between 1837 and 1889 to understand why the U.S. government and the Ojibwe signed the documents. It also looks at the worldviews of settlers and Indigenous peoples in northern Minnesota at the time to appreciate the specific terms and to summarize how those treaties affect people today.
