June Events at Pembina State Museum

Pembina State Museum is hosting free, family-friendly programs on Saturdays in June to share the games and skills that shaped the history of the region. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

June 6, Little Saplings: Dinosaurs, 1-4 p.m. “Little Saplings” is a new 30-minute program introducing preschool-aged children to North Dakota’s fascinating history. Explore the world of dinosaurs! Every half-hour beginning at 1 p.m., hear a short story and then make dinosaurs out of foam shapes to take home.

June 13, Contextual Archaeology, 1-4 p.m. Discover how archaeologists uncover clues about the distant and recent past through replica artifacts. Excavate a simulated dig site and determine its story by comparing the artifacts you find. The program is geared toward teens and begins each hour starting at 1 p.m.

June 20, Games of Pembina’s Past: Graces, 1-4 p.m. Learn how to play the game of graces! This settler game was played primarily by children but can be enjoyed by any age. See how skilled you are tossing the grace hoop.

June 27, Arrows and Atlatls, 1-4 p.m. Learn about the tools prehistoric hunters used to survive and thrive on the prairies. Test your skills with bison and bear targets, bows, arrows, and spear-throwers on the back lawn.

These events are part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating our country’s 250th birthday.

The Pembina State Museum, located at 805 Highway 59, Pembina, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
