Top 9-Hole Rural Golf Courses to Experience

A beautiful gem located in the hills above the city of Bottineau. A challenging course with great views and fun holes - they are a bit tricky as they all have a one-way turn downhill, but it looks as if you are actually putting uphill.

The Sweetwater Golf Course is a nine-hole, links-style course with undulating fairways. Golfers are drawn to the facility due to its exceptional grass greens. Interesting course with creeks and side hills, and a newly constructed clubhouse. 

The Garden Gate Golf Course is a beautiful 9-hole course located about 2 miles north of Dunseith on Hwy 281. It is a challenging course with creeks, streams, and many trees.

The golf course is situated along the Knife River that offers scenic holes with mature trees and rolling greens. This short layout has three sets of tee boxes, 2800 yards, and par 35, with many challenging approach shots. The toughest hole here is the #1 handicap par 3 they call "The shortest par five in North Dakota."

Located in Grand Rapids (about 12 miles NW of LaMoure), this course features 3,135 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36 and boasts some of the most scenic views of the James River Valley. With its challenging water hazards and immaculate greens, golfers of all levels will enjoy this course.

The course features mounding outlining the fairways and greens with an amphitheater effect for the hillside greens. There are elevation changes on all holes that are as much as 120 ft from tee to green. Water comes into play on two holes on this links-type course that measures just 3,000 yards from the white tees but stretches to almost 3,300 yards from the tips.

Larimore Golf Course is a fun par 36 course located near Larimore Dam and Recreation Area. Very challenging course with 2,971 yards and a par 3 that you shoot downhill 100 yards out and down.

The Linton Country Club is one of the finest nine-hole grass green courses in North Dakota. The course is very well kept with a great location west of Linton on Beaver Creek.

The course is a diamond in rough hidden in rural Mayville and was designed and built by Leo Johnson. He designed many of the holes to hug the Goose River.

Rolla Country Club lies in the heart of the Turtle Mountains with unique formations of trees, hills and lakes that are like none other in the state. With the crowned greens and blind shots (dog legs) this course is challenging and has been called the toughest 9-hole course in ND.

The original sand green course was established in the 1950's. The 3,151 yards course sits on 82 acres along the river and is a beautiful course with many trees and water.

Located on the western edge of Underwood, the course is the result of a unique joint effort between the City of Underwood and Falkirk Mining Company. Built in 1989 on reclaimed land, it features a beautiful, treed course surrounded by golden prairies with nine greens, 18 tees and three water hazards.
