Icelandic Rootshús Grand Opening

Celebrate the Grand Opening Weekend of the Icelandic Rootshús, July 29–August 1, 2027, during Mountain’s historic Deuce of August celebration!

The new 4,400-square-foot interactive cultural center will be open with special hours and activities Thursday through Sunday. Explore Iceland’s volcanoes, glaciers, geology, and landscapes; follow the story of emigration and settlement across North America; experience interactive technology, genealogy, historic artifacts, photography, and exhibits; discover the children’s area; browse the Rootshús gift shop; and attend genealogy sessions and special programs throughout the weekend. Specialty vendors will be on site. Take part in the 128th Annual Deuce of August. The Icelandic Roots Friday Forum will take place at the Mountain Community Center on Friday with speakers and presentations. See icelandicroots.com for details.

The official Grand Opening Ceremony and outdoor ribbon cutting will take place Saturday, July 31, following the Deuce of August parade. The Rootshús will be closed during our Grand Opening Ceremony. Visitors from Iceland, Canada, across the United States, and throughout the region are invited to join us for this historic weekend in Mountain and be among the first to experience the Icelandic Rootshús.

Admission to the Rootshús and Grand Opening celebration is free.
