The Minot State University Theatre Program is excited to announce a partnership with TheatreMidwest to present Jennifer Fawcett’s award-winning play about parenting, punishment, and pie, “Apples In Winter.”
A tour-de-force undertaking for one actor, the production will play at Minot State’s Aleshire Theater on Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. TheatreMidwest presents this project at the Aleshire Theater as part of a major tour of the Midwest USA and beyond, playing at venues in Marshall, Minnesota; Yankton, South Dakota; Peru, Nebraska; and more.
Nadine Purvis Schmidt plays Miriam, who is making an apple pie. Several years ago, Miriam’s son, Robert, committed a horrible crime and has been sitting on death row ever since. As is the tradition, in the waning hours before the end comes, Robert is granted a last meal.
This is a play about monsters and the mothers of monsters. And about how we care for each other. And about how to make a really good apple pie.
TheatreMidwest’s “Apples In Winter” project offers accessible theater-going opportunities by bringing the work to these communities and maintaining the company’s commitment to Radical Hospitality — the removal of barriers that prevent people from attending the theater.
Admission does not require a fee, but reservations are strongly encouraged due to limited seating. A conversation among artists and audience will commence shortly after the performance. TheatreMidwest Company members will also be in residence Nov. 11-13 to visit classes, present workshops, and interact with the community.
