Minot Air Force Base
Located approximately 13 miles north of Minot, North Dakota, Minot Air Force Base (MAFB) is home to two major units: the 5th Bomb Wing, which operates the B-52H Stratofortress, and the 91st Missile Wing, responsible for the Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system. As the only U.S. military installation to host two legs of the nuclear triad, MAFB plays a critical role in national defense and global stability
Established in 1957, the base supports over 5,500 active-duty personnel and their families. Known for its strong community ties, MAFB offers a safe, family-friendly environment with access to outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and a welcoming local populationPublic ToursThe Minot AFB Public Affairs Office offers guided tours from March through October. These tours provide a unique opportunity to learn about the base’s mission, view a B-52 static display, and explore key facilities. However, tours are not guaranteed and are subject to approval and availability.
- Advance notice of at least four weeks is required
- Tours are not available from November through January
- “Drop-in” visits are not permitted
- All visitors must either have a personal connection to someone with active base access or be approved by a base sponsor
- Submitting a request does not guarantee a tour
