August 8, 2026 10:00am to 4:30pm
August 8, 2026 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Attend special anniversary events celebrating the Chateau de Morès’ 85th year as a state historic site Saturday, Aug. 8, in Medora.

Participate in free family activities from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Play lawn games, enjoy refreshments, watch “History Alive” performances and create a colorful masterpiece at the tie-dye station. Shirts are available for purchase in the Museum Store.

From 6 to 9 p.m., step back to August 1941 and enjoy an evening of period music, refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, and theatrical performances that bring to life the people who helped preserve the Chateau and its history.

Learn about the establishment and early years (1936-66) of the Chateau de Morès as a State Historic Site through dramatic performances of historical documents from this era. Enjoy appetizers catered by L'Amour Bistro while watching dramatic readings of correspondence between Louis Manca, son of the Marquis de Morès, and Russell Reid, superintendent of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The program also includes “Harry Roberts Remembers,” a one-man performance highlighting the experiences of the Chateau's first site supervisor.

"The Chateau has welcomed generations of visitors over the past 85 years," said Site Supervisor Keshna DeJesus. "This celebration honors not only the Marquis de Morès and his family but also the dedicated individuals whose efforts ensured this landmark would be preserved and shared with the public."

Tickets for the evening are $40 per person and must be purchased by July 30 at Chateau85thAnniversary.eventbrite.com. This event is for ages 10 and up, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The menu includes cheese and olive canapés, cold pasta cups, chicken salad croissants, and olive kebabs.

This event is part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating our nation's 250th birthday.
