Artist Demonstration: Shane Balkowitsch

Wet-plate collodion gives the photographer roughly fifteen minutes: the plate has to be coated, exposed, and developed before it dries. Shane Balkowitsch creates one start to finish in front of the audience, from blank plate to a finished image, using a process largely unchanged since the 1850s. Everyone who buys a ticket before the 2 PM start is entered into a drawing to sit as the subject for the demonstration, and the winner receives a print of the finished plate by mail. Held in the Barry Auditorium as part of the opening weekend for the David Hume Kennerly exhibition.
