The Nokota Horse Conservancy®

Experience the historic Nokota® horses on native ND prairies. View the horses in a natural environment, experiencing the stud band interactions and their natural means of communication. Visit in early fall for the best opportunity to see the foals born in the spring and summer seasons. These horses are descendants of the Lakota herds of the 19th century and turn-of-the-century ranch horses, feral on the North Dakota plains for nearly a century. The Nokota Horse Conservancy® is a non-profit organization formed in 1999 to ensure the survival of these historic horses. Recent genetic studies have provided intriguing and valuable information regarding their origins and their unique genetic profile. The conservancy's breeding herd, currently at over 110 head, is maintained on the vast and pristine Silbernagel land just one mile east of Linton. Pasture tours are available by appointment with the herd manager, Paul Silbernagel 701-226-6136. A suggested donation will be requested.
