Ellendale Opera House

This marvelous structure is being restored to its once glorious use as a theater for traveling acting troupes and musical acts. The building's proximity to the former railroad depot brought in not only fancy-dressed ladies and gentlemen from Aberdeen to see the entertainment but also carloads of scenery and props for the traveling acts. A dedicated group of volunteers under the name of O.P.E.R.A., Inc., the Organization of People in Ellendale for Restoration of the Arts, is raising funds and getting their hands dirty rebuilding the opera house.

Art exhibits in the Lobby & Gallery change monthly. Visit www.ellendaleoperahouse.com for calendar of exhibits and special events.

Each Friday, from April through October, a lunch is served by O.P.E.R.A. members between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Donations accepted. Proceeds go toward restoration of the 1909 landmark.

Special tours of the building, including the yet-to-be-completed 700-seat auditorium, can be arranged by calling 701-535-0347.

Ellendale is located in south central North Dakota, 40 miles north of Aberdeen, S.D., on US Highway 281.
