Your Invited to visit RSL3 Missile Site Tours located on Hwy 5 in West Cavalier ND. RSL3 was part of The Stanley Mickelson Safeguard Complex, (SMSC) a six site defensive Anti Ballistic missile site which used nuclear tipped missile to intercept incoming enemy missiles. Its multiple radar sites and 4 remote launch sites mission was to defend our offensive ICBM's (150 Minuteman Missiles) and their Command Launch Centers scattered across the North Dakota Country side during the height of the Cold War.
The Remote Launch Operations Bunker is currently filled with a historic photo gallery, with some rooms left as they were more then 45 years ago. This bunker was designed to take a 10 mega-ton nuclear warhead near miss (1 mile away) and still function. Enter the bunker down the 75 foot tunnel and pass through 2 equipment and 2 personnel entrance blast doors. Explore the cable vault, arms room, crypto room and missileer living quarters, and lets not forget the multiple suspended (from the ceiling) rooms in the bunker, this experience will leave you chilled (50 Degrees) and amazed. The tour then goes on top of the bunker for a breath taking view of the 16 silo nuclear missile field and the red river valley. After examining the escape hatch, exhaust and fresh air intake tower, its out to the 16 silo Nike Sprint Missile Field and then a look at our built to scale 27 foot Sprint Missile! Did I forget to mention the 75 light poles with unique lighting use to keep the site looking like day.
RSL3 Missile Site Tour is expanding over the next 2-5 years. A full service retreat will be created enhancing the visitors overall experience with innovative projects listed below to include but not limited to: Establishing “The Retreat@RSL3” is a large undertaking as its consist of above ground Air B&B’s lodging for 7 and underground lodging for 25-35. An additional 15 full service seasonal hook-ups (total 20), will allow the addition of up to 90 people @ 6 occupants per-site when filled. This brings the total to a possible 147 lodging slots where the once were none. Phase-1 establish the Retreat@RSL3 with lodging, parking, rentals, missile field light show. Phase-2 the underground@RSL3 develop entertainment dance club/area There has been interest, and we plan to rent the complete site for yearly corporate events such as parties, reunions, school dances, etc.;The retreat@RSL3 will also add an all-inclusive option for full site reservation and accommodate larger organizations. The retreat@RSL3 will host a yearly New Years Eve “Bunker Bash” at its 12500 sq ft underground retreat and ring in the new year with its outdoor laser light show and fireworks to entertain, with live streaming available on the website and the three 130 inch TV’s located throughout the lodge as well as the video wall located in the shared Air B&B entertainment room. RSL3’s guided Pembina Gorge tours will use 6 passenger side by sides running up to frost fire and the Pembina Gorge State park year round as we will focus on promoting the area instead of a site. RSL3 has elected to join with individual donors, foundations, federal funding, and North Dakota Chamber of commerce and tourism for 1-1 match funding and promotion of its annual World Peace Project (WPP). RSL3 will be launching its first 2026 WPP and continue hosting annual performances at its former Anti Ballistic Missile (ABM) Site. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, RSL3 was part of The Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex (SMSC). We are also building a "Ride the Missile" attraction in our 12,500 sq. foot underground bunker using a custom Virtual Reality Program (VRP), platforms which hang from the ceiling, and a 5 dimensional theater experience highlighting the SMSC in action. We are also planing to take our mobile exhibition of the VRP and versions of the WPP to schools, underprivileged communities, and put on loan to museums around the country. The goal is to rotate area schools through the museum with the added ride the missile experience into winter months.
