Lake Metigoshe State Park
Escape to the beauty of Lake Metigoshe State Park, nestled in the picturesque Turtle Mountains along the U.S.-Canadian border. One of North Dakota's most popular year-round destinations, the park offers endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, family fun, and peaceful relaxation in a breathtaking natural setting.
Explore the park's crystal-clear lakes by kayak, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, or pontoon, or spend the day fishing, birdwatching, or relaxing along the shoreline. With nearly 130 campsites, visitors can choose from modern and primitive camping, while those seeking additional comforts can stay in full-service or semi-primitive cabins, a backcountry cabin, or a unique semi-primitive yurt.
Adventure continues in every season with convenient equipment rentals. Summer visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, pontoons, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), and aqua pads, while winter brings opportunities to explore snow-covered trails with cross-country skis, ski shoes, kicksleds, and snowshoes.
Discover more than 13 miles of scenic multiuse trails, including the three-mile self-guided Old Oak Trail. Families and outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy the swimming beach, picnic and day-use areas, playgrounds, geocaching, a popular sledding hill, and year-round fishing. Snowmobilers can connect to the renowned Peace Garden Snowmobile Trail, which travels through the park.
Lake Metigoshe State Park is dedicated to making the outdoors accessible to everyone. A track chair is available to help visitors with mobility challenges experience the park's beautiful trails and natural landscapes.
The park's diverse woodlands and wetlands are home to an impressive variety of wildlife, wildflowers, and bird species rarely found elsewhere in North Dakota, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and photographers. Plant and bird checklists are available at the park office to help visitors identify the area's unique flora and fauna.
Throughout the year, the park offers engaging educational programs, guided activities, and special events that celebrate the region's history, wildlife, and outdoor traditions. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, family vacation, reunion, retreat, or special event, Lake Metigoshe State Park offers unforgettable experiences in every season.
