The Former Governors' Mansion State Historic Site is offering free weekly activities throughout the summer season to promote learning and fun for adults and children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Daycares and school groups are encouraged to attend. Cookies and lemonade will be served, unless otherwise noted.
July 1, Coffee Filter Flowers, 2-4 p.m. Get inspired by the flowers at the Former Governors’ Mansion, then learn how to make beautiful flowers.
July 3, Stomp Rockets, 2-4 p.m. Red, white and boom! Build 4th of July rockets and launch them using stomp pads.
July 4, Watermelon & Music, Noon-4 p.m. Cool off with lemonade and complimentary slices of watermelon, noon-4 p.m. Groove to pop and country favorites performed by Kaitlin Collins, 2-3 p.m.
July 8, Candle Making, 2-4 p.m. Discover the centuries-old art of candle making and craft a candle.
July 10, Dinosaur Day, 2-4 p.m. Dinosaurs once roamed the land where the mansion stands today. Join us for a variety of fun dinosaur activities.
July 12, Fibers & Flavors, 1-4 p.m. Fiber craft enthusiasts, bring your crochet, knitting, or preferred fiber craft projects to work on in the ambiance of the Former Governors’ Mansion. Sweet tea and cookies will be served.
July 15, Bird Feeders, 2-4 p.m. Attract songbirds to your yard. Learn about North Dakota birds and make a bird feeder.
July 17, Sun Art, 2-4 p.m. Experiment with the sun’s powers to create a deep blue sun print.
July 22, Suncatcher Wind Chimes, 2-4 p.m. Wind chimes add music to a windy day. Assemble a wind chime to take home.
July 24, Bridge Building, 2-4 p.m. Learn about bridges in the Bismarck-Mandan community, then build a bridge with fun supplies.
July 29, Sand Slime, 2-4 p.m. Playing in the sand is a great way to pass a summer day. Whip up sand slime to enjoy time and time again.
July 31, Homemade Bath Fizzies, 2-4 p.m. Get ready for some fizzy fun. Mix simple ingredients to make a bath fizzy.
