Free learning series 'Little Kids, Big World' featured at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum
Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to the free learning series "Little Kids, Big World" at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. These interactive 30-minute programs introduce children to North Dakota’s fascinating history. Children and their accompanying adult(s) are asked to meet at the west entrance information desk.
Jan. 3 and 7, Birds,10 a.m. Where do birds go when the weather turns cold? Explore how birds survive the winter, then build a bird’s nest to take home.
Jan. 10, Winter Activities, 10 a.m. Let’s get moving! Enjoy music and movement inspired by winter activities. This activity will be held in partnership with Kindermusik instructors from Northern Plains Dance.
Jan. 14, Winter Activities, 10 a.m. Let’s get moving! Enjoy music and movement inspired by winter activities.
Jan. 17 and 21, Northern Lights, 10 a.m. What makes those beautiful colors in the night sky? Discover the science of the Northern Lights through different learning stations.
Jan. 24 and 28, Winter Counts, 10 a.m. A picture is said to be worth a thousand words. Create your own stories using pictures, and learn about the history of winter counts.
Jan. 31 and Feb. 4, Cocoa Craft, 10 a.m. Staying warm in the winter can be a hard thing to do but hot chocolate helps. Make a paper cup hot chocolate craft.
Feb. 7 and 11, Curling, 10 a.m. The Winter Olympic Games have started! Learn about curling, an Olympic event and North Dakota’s state sport.
Feb. 14 and 18, Valentine’s Day, 10 a.m. Valentine’s Day is a great way to celebrate the things we love. Listen to the book “Love Monster” by Rachel Bright, and create your own love monster using a paper bag.
Feb. 21 and 25, Dinosaurs, 10 a.m. Dinosaurs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Investigate the shapes you see in our dinosaurs, then form your own dinosaurs with 2D shapes.
Feb. 28 and March 4, Winter Camouflage, 10 a.m. Did you know some animals grow white winter coats to blend into snowy landscapes? Explore how animals adapt to the winter and paint a snowy owl.
