Little Kids, Big World: Fall Leaves

Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to the free learning series “Little Kids, Big World” at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. These interactive 30-minute programs introduce children to North Dakota’s fascinating history. Saturday topics are repeated Mondays. Children and their accompanying adult(s) are asked to meet at the west entrance information desk.

Oct. 3, 10:15 a.m. and Oct. 5. 10 a.m. Fall Leaves. Why do leaves turn red, orange, and yellow? Uncover the science behind fall colors and create leaf prints on paper to take home.

Oct. 10, 10:15 a.m. and Oct.12, 10 a.m. Genealogy With State Archives. Genealogy is the history of your family. Think about your family members, and chart how you are related on your own family tree.

Oct. 17, 10:15 a.m. and Oct. 19, 10 a.m. Superheroes. From comic books to the big screen, superheroes have captured our imaginations for generations. Trace their history and design a superhero mask of your own.

Oct. 24, 10:15 a.m. and Oct. 26, 10 a.m. Jack-o'-lanterns. Ever wonder why pumpkins became a Halloween tradition? Dig into the history of jack-o'-lanterns and assemble your own paper version.

Oct. 31, 10:15 a.m. and Nov. 2, 10 a.m. Squirrels. North Dakota is home to several species of squirrels. Take a closer look at these busy backyard animals, then build your own squirrel from a paper cup.
