Annual Ice Cream Social

Mark your calendars for the Annual Ice Cream Social at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site in Bismarck on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. This free, family-friendly event celebrates music of the 1950s and 1960s. Throughout the afternoon, attendees can enjoy free hotdogs and ice cream.

The AMVETS will present the colors at 1 p.m., followed by accordion dance music performed by Victor Schwahn. At 2 p.m., The Ravens, a North Dakota classic rock and roll band who have played together for more than 60 years, will take the stage. A dance floor will be available.

The mansion will be open for self-guided tours throughout the event. Exhibits of early 1900s phonographs and 1960s musical equipment will be on display. Children can participate in lawn games and craft activities, and Theo Art School will provide face painting

Seating will be available, but visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The event, sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors’ Mansion, is part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating our country’s 250th birthday.

The Former Governors’ Mansion, located at 320 E. Ave. B, Bismarck, is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society. Admission is free.
