Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site near Fargo is hosting free family-friendly activities in June to promote learning and fun for adults and children.
June 7 & 8, Kite Flying Weekend, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The parade grounds at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site are a perfect backdrop to watch your kite soar. Bring your kite or join us in the interpretive center to craft one of your own, then head outside to catch the breeze.
June 15, History of Mathew Brady's Civil War Photography, 2-3 p.m. Mathew Brady was a visionary photographer who brought the realities of the Civil War to life. Discover how his iconic images of battlefields, camps, and portraits forever changed the way history is remembered. Join staff member Alan Fricker as he shares insights into Brady's legacy and the stories behind the lens.
June 22, Concert at the Fort, 2-3:30 p.m. Paul and Kara of Fladland Band will take the stage, performing an enjoyable mix of folk, jazz, country, and gospel favorites. Bring a chair, relax on the historic grounds, and enjoy the music. The event is sponsored by the family of Mary Krueger.
June 29, Frontier Military Forts and Settlement, 2-3 p.m. Join staff member Lis Fricker for an engaging exploration of how military forts shaped the landscape and legacy of homesteading on the northern Plains. Learn how these strategic outposts provided protection, facilitated settlement, and influenced the growth of communities across the region.

Summer hours are daily May 24-Sept. 1, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with guided tours available until 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
