The park is home to two newly constructed war memorials. One memorial honors a highly decorated, former Portal resident, 1Lt Rodger Hertel, who was killed in action in Viet Nam in 1965. The second monument honors all those soldiers from Portal and our sister City, North Portal, Saskatchewan, who were killed in action in WW I, WW II and Viet Nam. Names of contributors to this project can be found engraved in the bricks of the monument.

Portal Memorial Park has electrical hookups for campers, a picnic area with tables and barbecues, playground equipment and indoor bathrooms.
