Medora Annual Hot Air Balloon Rally

The end of summer is upon us and that means Medora will be having a jam-packed weekend of fun for everyone! The 22nd annual Hot Air Balloon Rally will be held Saturday, September 7th and Sunday September 8th in Medora. Thousands of guests are excited to gather and watch over a dozen Hot Air Balloons lift off into the sky and soar through the beautiful Medora Badlands. Pilots will meet at 5:00 am each day to determine weather conditions and prepare for a 6:30 am launch from the Medora Campground.

Before the extravaganza, we are welcoming special guests to join us on Friday, September 6th for our media launch. Get to know the pilots, enjoy a sneak peek of the weekend, and document the joy as passengers experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Friday’s riders include two Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation employees, two cast members from the Medora Musical, and a special passenger who’s dream will come true. Each rider offers a unique story we’d love for you to capture! If you’d prefer to experience a balloon ride yourself, we have two open spots for media interested in taking to the skies. After Friday’s fun, come back for two more days of balloon watching and even more weekend fun! On Saturday, enjoy a chili dog tailgate at the Tjaden Terrace complete with bouncy houses, yard games, and an ice cream truck. Then head to the Burning Hills Amphitheatre at 2:00 pm for Praise in the Badlands – a concert event featuring Sanctus Real, Maddie Rey, Tru Serva, and a gospel message from Pulse Evangelism founder Nick Hall. End the night with a dinner at the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and the season finale of the Medora Musical! We’d like to thank you all for such a great 2024 season.
