With more than 50 state historic sites, two state museums and dozens of county historical societies, history buffs can easily lose themselves in North Dakota's story, from T. Rex to Teddy Roosevelt and from Sakakawea to Sitting Bull.
North Dakota Heritage Center
The state's largest museum has an outstanding collection of Plains Indian artifacts and interpretive exhibits that feature North Dakota's varied Native American, military and agricultural history. Visit the Heritage Center's special children's historical exhibit area and Bismarck.
Pembina State Museum
Explore the history of North Dakota's first inhabitants - Native American tribes, the Métis people, fur traders and immigrant settlers. Get a stunning view of the Red River Valley from an observation tower seven-stories above the ground.
Dakota Dinosaur Museum
The museum features 11 full-scale dinosaurs, minerals, mammals, fossils and sea life.
Children's Museum at Yunker Farm
The children's museum offers hands-on exhibits and creative, unique learning opportunities for children and families. The museum is located at a picturesque restored farmstead.
Pfennig Wildlife Museum
The museum in Beulah features the largest individual wildlife collection in North Dakota and includes approximately 175 animal specimens from all around the world.

Dale and Martha Hawk Museum
Pioneer exhibit new Wolford includes collections on original Hawk Farmstead. See early 1900 steam engines, threshers, tractors, autos, large number of farm implements along with a wide range of early household items, some pre-Civil War era. Tour through 12 buildings on the grounds. Picnic area, camping, RV parking, hot showers, flush toilets, handicap accessible throughout.

National Buffalo Museum
The National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown explains the evolution of the buffalo through its display and exhibits. Look for the live herd of buffalo and the rare albino buffalo in the museum's adjacent pasture.

North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame
A tribute to the greatest names in sports the state has produced, including home run king Roger Maris and basketball coaching legend Phil Jackson. Features photographs and signed memorabilia.

Hatton-Eielson Museum
The boyhood home in Hatton of Carl Ben Eielson, "The Father of Alaskan Aviation," is a beautifully restored Queen Ann house/museum which tells the story of the settlement of the Red River Valley and of Ben Eielson's heroic exploits in early aviation. Included is a display of the 1925 Fokker F1A airplane. The Hatton-Eielson is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites.
