Wahpeton Area
BAGG BONANZA FARM Mooreton (1 mile off Interstate 29 at exit 23)
- One of the last remaining bonanza farms in the U.S., includes restoration of 29 buildings. The centerpiece of the 15-acre farm is a fully restored 21-bedroom main house. National Historical Landmark. This farm is in Mooreton , which is west of Wahpeton.

FARGO THEATRE
- The Fargo Theatre is a vintage movie palace built in 1926 to showcase major silent films and vaudeville acts. Fully-restored art deco theater that seats 870, programming first-run independent films nightly with occasional live stage events. PLAINS ART MUSEUM

HERITAGE-HJEMKOMST CENTER

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA CENTER FOR AEROSPACE SCIENCES
- The UND Aerospace Center is a leader in aviation training and research development. Tours feature CAS Altitude Chamber, Atmospherium Planetarium, Severe Weather Analysis Center and Aeroheritage Room (mini museum). GINGRAS HISTORICAL PARK
- This house and general store owned by Antoine B. Gingras served the Metis community in the Northern Red River Valley between 1843 and 1873. The two buildings on the site are the oldest standing structures built by Euro-Americans in North Dakota. www.nd.gov/hist
STATE HISTORICAL PARK - KITTSON TRADING POST
- In 1843, Norman Kittson, an American Fur Company agent, built a trading post. The Kittson Trading Post is the oldest building in North Dakota. It is located in the Walhalla State Historical Park and is preserved by the State Historical Society.

- Winding along the bends of the Pembina River you can enjoy the panorama of the Pembina gorge and enjoy the recreational, historical and natural scenery opportunities of the area.
PEMBINA GORGE
- The Pembina Gorge extends from the Canadian border to just northwest of Walhalla, encompassing most of the largest uninterrupted block of woodlands in North Dakota, approximately 12,500 acres and the longest segment of unaltered river valley in the state.

TETRAULT WOODS STATE FOREST
- This 431-acre state forest is located in the beautiful Pembina Gorge. The gorge, a forested valley following the path of the meandering Pembina River, is one of North Dakota's most scenic river valleys. It is also home to elk and more than 75 species of breeding birds. Cavalier
ICELANDIC STATE PARK
- The park is 912-acres that are located on the north shore of Lake Renwick. Within the park the Pioneer Heritage Center, Pembina County Historical Museum and the Gunlogson Homestead provide a glimpse of early homesteading in North Dakota. FORT UNION TRADING POST NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
- Dominated the fur trade on the Upper Missouri River between 1829 and 1867. Built near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers. Home to John Jacob Astor’s powerful American Fur Company. Indians and the fur traders peacefully co-existed before the great Indian wars. The Bourgeois House contains the museum exhibits. Gift and souvenir shop is housed in the reconstructed Indian Trade House. You may purchase replicas of trade items that were bartered for in the days of the successful fur trading companies.
WRITING ROCK STATE HISTORIC SITE
- Site preserves two large boulders bearing many Indian pictographs. Indian artifacts and tipi rings can be seen. The area was used for worship and hunting.

LONG X VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER
- The Long X Visitor Center and Museum is the central location for information on the area's cultural, geological, historical, and geographic attractions. The Pioneer Museum features a timeline of the history of the area and Grandma's Pantry and Books gift shop.
MCKENZIE COUNTY PIONEER MUSEUM
- This pioneer museum has many artifacts exhibited in the historic classroom.
MCKENZIE COUNTY HERITAGE PARK
- Original trapper’s log cabin, homestead shack, one-room school and original 1915 Schafer Law Office. Mammoth fossil bones discovered in the area.
THEODORE ROOSEVELT NATIONAL PARK NORTH UNIT

LITTLE MISOURRI NATIONAL GRASSLANDS
- Largest and most diverse of the 19 grasslands found in the Western United States. The 140 mile stretch of grasslands cover more than 1 million acres. Both Theodore Roosevelt National Park units are part of the grasslands. Terrain includes: rolling prairie, badland terrain, woody draws, and high buttes. Animals found in the grasslands include: prairie dogs, eagle, flacons, elk, antelope, mule and white-tail deer. The only stand of limber pine in the state is just north of Marrmath. The only natural Ponderosa Pine Forest in the state is located west of Amidon.

OLD GRASSY BUTTE POST OFFICE
- National registered historic site built of logs and sod in 1912. Now serves as a unique museum housing exhibits from the 1800s and early 1900s. Medora Area Medora is the gateway to the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This authentic Old West cow-town was founded in 1883 by the Marquis de Mores and named for his wife.
CHATEAU DEMORES STATE HISTORIC SITE
- Elegant 26-room home of the famous French nobleman who founded Medora. Built in 1883. It is one of the three mansions on the prairie.

- North Dakota Badlands provide the scenic backdrop to this park. Named for the 26th President, it memorializes his contribution to conservation. Visitor’s center and Theodore Roosevelt’s cabin from the Maltese Cross Ranch. The loop drive could provide a view of buffalo, deer, elk, big-horn sheep, wild horses, mule deer and prairie dog towns. LAKE SAKAKAWEA

HISTORIC BRIDGES TOUR
- Involves eight unique bridges. Valley City was founded in 1872 and is built around the winding Sheyenne River. The Hi-Line Bridge is the longest, also one of the highest bridges, 126 feet high; and is on the former Northern Pacific Railway.
MEDICINE WHEEL PARK
