MISSOURI – YELLOWSTONE CONFLUENCE INTERPRETIVE CENTER
- Center tells history of the area and the people who inhabited the area near where the two great rivers converge. Permanent and rotating exhibits, meeting rooms, gift store. Walking path, picnic area. www.nd.gov/hist
FORT BUFORD STATE HISTORIC SITE
- Established in 1866 at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers, Fort Buford became a major supply depot for military field operations. Site of Sitting Bull's surrender in 1881. Walking trail on site. www.nd.gov/hist
FORT UNION TRADING POST NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
- Dominated the fur trade on the Upper Missouri River between 1829 and 1867. Built near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers. Home to John Jacob Astor’s powerful American Fur Company. Indians and the fur traders peacefully co-existed before the great Indian wars. The Bourgeois House contains the museum exhibits. Gift and souvenir shop is housed in the reconstructed Indian Trade House. You may purchase replicas of trade items that were bartered for in the days of the successful fur trading companies.
Minot Area
SCANDINAVIAN HERITAGE PARK
- Outdoor museum honors Nordic ancestors. Norwegian house, stabbur, Danish windmill, Swedish Dala Horse, stave church, statues, picnic pavilion and visitor center, Finnish sauna, map plaza. www.scandinavianheritage.org
UPPER SOURIS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
- This is home to the Sprague’s Pipit, a rare North American bird.
J CLARK SALYER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
- The largest of North Dakota’s developed refuges. Has a 22-mile auto tour covering marshes, wooded river bottoms and sandhills.
MINOT AIR FORCE BASE
- Home to the 5th Bomb Wing. Offers drive-around tours of the facilities and the flight line. Step-on-guides are available. Reservations required four weeks in advance. 701-723-6212

- The geographical center of North America is marked at this junction with a stone cairn.
NIEWOEHNER BELL TOWER
- The 34-foot tower features a collection of 15 bells acquired over the years by Dale Niewoehner.
NORTHERN LIGHTS TOWER
- The 110-foot, multi-colored tower with its steel pillars is illuminated to simulate the northern lights phenomenon so prominent in this part of the country.
PIERCE COUNTY COURTHOUSE
- On the National Register of Historic Places, the courthouse has marble hallways and a dome rotunda with hand-painted scenes.

- Reproductions of Women’s garments representing years 1860-1907.

FORT TOTTEN HISTORIC SITE

LAKE REGION PIONEER DAUGHTERS MUSEUM
- Located on the grounds of one of the best preserved military posts in the nation, this museum includes frontier, military, American Indian displays and artifacts and historical video presentations.
SULLY’S HILL NATIONAL GAME PRESERVE

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA CENTER FOR AEROSPACE SCIENCES
- The UND Aerospace Center is a leader in aviation training and research development. Tours feature CAS Altitude Chamber, Atmospherium Planetarium, Severe Weather Analysis Center and Aeroheritage Room (mini museum). The Aerospace Training and Research Center tour includes Flight Training Room (simulators) and Computer Based Instruction Lab and Flight Operations. Group tours by appointment.
NORTH DAKOTA MUSEUM OF ART

HERITAGE-HJEMKOMST CENTER
