Bread Baking

Home made bread from fresh gound wheat is a culinary treat!  Learn about the importance of good ingredients and the variables that affect a good product.  We'll make a batch from scratch and enjoy the finished product.  We can also talk about using bread machines and making special breads.  We'll design a hands-on experience based on your interests.

Pottery
Dacotah Clayworks
Dirt Pots...pottery making with local clay by a master potter

Learn the process of making pottery from native clays at Dacotah Clayworks, Hebron ND.  Studio potter, Robin Reynolds offers demonstrations on the potter's wheel and/or a hands-on experience making pottery with Hebron clay.  Visitors will see clay processing andn pottery making from raw material to finished ware.  Refreshments served.

Tour Availability: Summer hours:Tuesday through Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day 9 a.m-5 p.m. Winter hours: Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m. Closed December 15-February 15.

Length of Tour: Regular tour: includes tour os facility, demonstrations and refreshments. One to one and a half hours.  Maximum group-6. Hands-on tour: includes demonstration, facility tour, refreshments and hands-on clay making experience.  Approximately 3 hours.  Maximum group-6.

Estimated Price: Regular tour: $20/person.  Children free (13 and under).  Hands-on tour: $40/person.  Children 13 and under $15.

Price Includes: Regular tour: Tour of facility, refreshments and demonstration.  Hands-on tour: Clay, supplies, firing fee, instruction, tour of facility, refreshments and demonstration.  Does not include packing and postage fees to send (by USPS) finished pottery to the maker(s).

Earthlodge Experiences

Get down and dirty with hands on activities using over 14 varieties of culinary herbs grown at gardendwellers Farm.  Activities include: seeding, planting, maintenance, harvesting, watering, weeding, herb crafts such as wreath making, potpourris, oils, vinegars and more.  Learn to cook simple, nutritious, delicious foods with fresh herbs.  We'll be preparing our meals during the day using freshly harvested herbs.  Organic and sustainable gardening activities as well as learning experiences.

gardendwellers Farm Spirit Sabbatical

Reconnect to yourself and the Earth.  Activities include: an introduction to the labyrinth and farm, a guided daily meditation program in a series of labyrinth walks, farm activities that involve hands on work for reconnecting to self and Earth, such as planting, harvesting herbs and flowers, quiet relaxation time for reading or prayer.  Visitors may choose, as a part of the guided program, to try their hand at various types of artwork, evening campfires, lighted labyrinth walks, star gazing and storytelling.

Old Fashioned Cooking

Cooking from scratch is not hard, nor difficult.  It does need a little know-how.  Depending on the time, we can teach the basics of one or more of the following (and end of the session by eating the lesson): noodle making, soups from scratch, baking cakes or muffins or biscuits or pies, marinades and sauces, seasoning with herbs and puddings.  We'll craft the lesson based on your interests.

Tour Sundog Glass Design, a stained and fused glass studio belonging to the only professional glass fuser in North Dakota, Alfred Jason Lindell.  Learn about these ancient glass arts and view a fusing demonstration.

Third Sunday Art Workshop

Saturday art workshops are exciting hands-on studios for children ages 6-13.  Parents/guardians are also welcome to attend.  Each session will revolve around what is on display at the ND Museum of Art.  Participants will look at and talk about artwork, then create their own works inspired by what they see!

Tour Availability: 3rd Saturday of every month, 10 a.m.-noon; September-April.

Wooly Girls

Tour the Wooly Girls Wool Mill where we take the wool from our sheep and show you the step-by-step process of turning it into felt.  We then use the felt to create many wonderful wool products.
