Becoming an Outdoors Woman - August 2008 Summer Session
 At beautiful Lake Metigoshe learn the basics: hunting, fishing, shooting skills, navigation, plants and animals. Aimed primarily at women, but anyone 18 years or older is welcome to learn outdoor skills. Workshops include: intro to firearms, edible wild plants, outdoor photography, decoy carving, birds and their nests, predator calling, GPS adventure, bog slogging, kayaking, flyfishing, into to bow, furry critters, plant ID and more.

Cold Climate Grape Production
 Learn about and participate in cold climate wine grape production, from pruning to netting to harvest. Try to stump the host with questions on plants, soils and local geology.

We also grow a wide variety of apples and other fruits including apricots, cherries, elderberries, gooseberries, pears and plums. We can give demonstrations on grafting apples.

Helping Harvest
 Farm Rescue is a non-profit organization that provides planning and harvesting assistance for farm families throughout North Dakota. Learning Based Vacations participants will learn about North Dakota's largest industry - agriculture. Experience large-scale farming operations first-hand while helping farmers who are recovering from a major injury or illness.

Location: Farm Rescue operations occur throughout the entire state of North Dakota.

From Field to Table - Exploring North Dakota Native Prairie and Agriculture Production
 Explore North Dakota native short-grass prairie and agriculture production on a third generation farm and ranch. This tour will provide the visitor a unique chance to be part of the prairie just as it was for thousands of years. Visitors will also learn about early settler history, agriculture production and ranching practices from the beginning of statehood to modern times.
There are always activities on a farm and ranch and depending on the season, the visitor may be able to experience calving, planting, harvesting or haying.
Historic markers such as the Native American Trail lines and early pioneer history are visible and explained in the tour.

From the Farm Gate to the Dinner Plate
 The North State University (NDSU) Langdon Research Extension Center (LREC) is an agriculturally based experiment stations, located in the NE region of ND. Com ride in our "people carriers" to visit research plots where we are experimenting with new varieties of crops distributed throughout the world. Did you know that a vast majority of french fried processed worldwide are the "Russet Burbank" and "Shepody" potato varieties, originated from our research station? We work with canola, trees and more!

gardendwellers Farm Flower Furlough
 Surround yourself with flowers! Activities will take place in our display and theme gardens and can include: seeding, planting, maintenance, harvesting, watering, weeding, flower crafts such as wreath making, flower pounding, flower arranging and more. gardendwellers Farm Spirit Sabbatical
 Reconnect to yourself and the Earth. Activities include: an introduction to the labyrinth and farm, a guided daily meditation program in a series of labyrinth walks, farm activities that involve hands on work for reconnecting to self and Earth, such as planting, harvesting herbs and flowers, quiet relaxation time for reading or prayer. Hike Across the Prairie

Other Info: Early departure from farmhouse, heading cross country over buttes covered by native grasses, through coulees, fields and pastures. We see remnants homesteads and may see wild game and flocks of birds along the way. Hikes range from 5 to 10 miles and are for all ages and any season.

Moo Acres & More
 Guests at Moo Acres Dairy will experience a trip to a multi-family dairy farm. A detailed description of life on Moo Acres Dairy includes a guided tour of the dairy and surrounding country. Guests will move through the farm to see stages of growing dairy animals, feeding, milking and growing crops. This tour can be hands-on if participants want to try their hand at milking and feeding.

Putting up the Harvest
 Putting up the harvest - canning, freezing, preserving foods. From late June through September, we harvest the food we've raised and preserve it for winter. We'll share our know-how with hands-on learning, using the crop in season. Among the food and methods: jelly and jams, canning fruit and tomatoes, canning pickles, freezing vegetables, making sauerkraut, butchering chickens. We'll design a program based on your interests and what's in season.
