Assumption Abbey is a community of Benedictine monks living on the prairie landscape. Assumption Abbey/St. Mary's Church was built in 1906 - 1910 in the Bavarian Romanesque style. The steeple design, comprised of four diamond shapes, is called "Rhenish helm", and is very rare in the United States. The towers soar about 125 feet to the top of the 8-foot iron crosses.
The Visitor's Center at Assumption Abbey is open to all guests and visitors, where a joyful monk will welcome you when stop by anytime during our scheduled hours. There you can find information on self-guided tours, the monastic life, and the history of Assumption Abbey. The Abbey Gift Shop features products made here by the Monks, such as soap, pottery, and candles. They also make available books, cards, plaques, and other religious articles, some of them imported.
