NDSU Memorial Union Gallery

Located in the Memorial Union on the North Dakota State University campus, the Memorial Union Gallery is home to the University's collection of 20th and 21st century American art, including works by Andy Warhol, Judy Chicago, Pablo Picasso, Fritz Scholder, James Rosenquist, and Jaune Quick-To-See Smith.

In 1969, the student government of North Dakota State University began investing a portion of the student activity fee to purchase fine art for the student body. A group of students, faculty, and staff began meeting to explore various funding opportunities and, with matching funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, began purchasing contemporary American art. Today, the art collection has grown to more than 400 pieces. Areas of focus within the collection include contemporary Native American art, Midwestern regional art, and work by NDSU students and alumni. The adjacent Gallery Store also features textiles, wearable art, ceramics, blown glass, jewelry, and unique gifts from local artists and alumni.   

In addition to displaying objects from the permanent collection, the NDSU Memorial Union Gallery hosts a full schedule of special exhibitions, lectures, and gallery talks. Students are encouraged to complement their course work with critical viewing, direct engagement, and appreciation of visual art and its role in society.
