Think&Drink: Justice in Harry Potter
We've all had deep discussions with our friends while we're out at night-why not add a couple of experts to the mix and really take it up a notch? That's the idea behind Think&Drink, a happy-hour series that sparks provocative conversations about big ideas.
The Harry Potter phenomenon swept the world in the late 1990s and continues to this day. It is a part of everyday culture now through books, movies, fanfiction, plays, music, and videos. Why has this series achieved world-wide recognition? What can we learn about our world? About philosophical topics such as good and evil? We will talk about these works with an underlying theme of "justice," and what it means in the novels and movies, in the context of their creation, and as they continue to be received and produced today. Especially relevant will be looking at issues of segregation, immigration, and intermarriage-all "hot topics" in 2018.
