The Lawrence Welk Birthplace is open for tours of the sod house Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. On Aug. 1-3, an event called Proving Up the Welk Homestead will be held. This is a work project for volunteers. Beginning on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, volunteers will be working on barn restoration, painting and sprucing up other buildings. On Saturday evening, there will be a German meal and musical and other entertainment by local entertainers and Mylo Hutchenbuler the Strasburg Super Star. There will be no fees charged on Saturday. Call  Clarence Herz  at 701-799-4081 for more information on volunteering, and for work on the barn. Sunday will be cleaning up and packing up.  Everyone is welcome  to come and help and come for the entertainment.  The meal will begin at 5:30 with entertainment following.  Regular tour time will return on Sunday.  There will be an opportunity to donate for the materials needed for the sprucing up at the site during the event.
