Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week at Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge's Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area.

The Big Sit! is an annual international noncompetitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher's Digest and founded by the New Haven (Conn.) Bird Club. The National Wildlife Refuge System has adopted it as an activity for National Wildlife Refuge Week.

We have identified a 17-foot diameter circle in the Watchable Wildlife Viewing Area. We will have chairs, binoculars and spotting scopes setup and ready to use, and we will identify as many birds as we can with at least one toe within the circle. Please join us for 1 or 2 hours or all day.

The event is FREE and open to the public!

No special equipment or experience is needed, but bring your binoculars and a field guide if you have them! We will have extras available. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair! We will have the water boiling, hot campfire coffee, a fire for warmth (if needed) and a grill available to grill meat and make S'mores. Also, Birding Drives Dakota, Friends Group of the refuge will provide 2 kettles of chili starting at 11am.

The Wildlife Viewing Area on the refuge is located on the east side of the lake just off 11th Street SE. From Highway 281, turn east on to 11th Street SE. From Highway 20, turn west onto Highway 9 and a second west onto 11th Street SE.
