28th Annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering
Plans for the 28th annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering to be held Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, at the Medora Community Center are still being finalized. Bill Lowman, is the founder and director of the two day event.
"My big thrust is to preserve, record and enhance American cowboy culture and this is a good way to do it," Lowman said. "It brings people from all walks of life, that have a tie to ranch life and cowboy culture and stuff and brings them together to celebrate this every year."
New this year is a photography show. To enter the contest contact Kriss Enzi of Beach at 701-872-2809 or Lyle Glass of Medora at 701-623-4599.
Registration for poets is set again to begin at 9 a.m. and ends at 12 noon on Saturday. Lowman said he expects about the same number of singers and poets who want to share their artistic work and will perform during an open microphone session from 1-4:30 p.m. on both days. Each evening features a professional show at 7:30 p.m.
Merrill Piepkorn of Fargo will be back this year. Piepkorn is the host and Executive Producer of Dakota Air: The Radio Show, an old fashioned traveling radio variety show, performed in front of a live audience, recorded and played back on the radio.
On Sunday morning, Country Gospel Music will be the featured again. "From nine to noon Sunday morning, and this isn't church, it's just round robin cowboy gospel singing. It just packs them in. It's really beautiful and it was a favorite of many last year." During the Poetry Gathering participants can browse the Art Show taking place during the event.
Individuals wanting more information can contact the Medora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau at 701-872-4830 or Lowman at 701-872-4746.
