Five North Dakota tourism partners attended this year's National Tour Association (NTA) Convention in November to promote specialized tours and attractions within the state. In addition, Lewis & Clark Coordinator, Annette Schilling, attended the Eighth Annual Cultural and Heritage Tourism Alliance National Conference.
North Dakota representatives at the NTA Convention included Deanne Felchle, group travel marketing director for North Dakota Tourism; Sylvia Garcia, Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau; Sheri Grossman, Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visotrs Bureau; Sheryl Persons, Tharaldson Properties; and Debra Bredahl, Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.
The annual NTA Convention, held this year in Salt Lake City, Utah, involves tourism leaders from the motorcoach industry, tour operators, travel industry, destination marketing organizations and other associations. The North Dakota contingent hosted 130 scheduled appointments with tour operators looking for more information about North Dakota attractions.
The Cultural and Heritage Tourism Alliance National Conference allowed Schilling, who also serves as North Dakota Tourism's Cultural and Heritage Tourism Coordinator, an opportunity to learn more about the integration of culture and heritage into a broad range of economic development strategies.
"The conference topics and speakers sparked some ideas we can use to market North Dakota's unique cultural and heritage areas," Schilling said.
Schilling noted that North Dakota was cited at the conference as an emerging leader in the nation's cultural and heritage tourism industry.
"The connections made at these kinds of conference have had a tremendous impact on our marketing efforts, and building awareness of North Dakota as a destination. Both NTA and the Cultural and Heritage conference are proving invaluable," said Sara Otte Coleman, North Dakota Tourism director.
