Here Fishy, Fishy...

How long does a sturgeon live? Are these big fish swimming in our lakes? Why are they called rainbow fish? These are just a few of the many questions fired off to staff at the second annual Hatchery Fun Day at the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. The hatchery staff did a great job sharing their knowledge on how to improve recreational fishing opportunities and facilitate recovery of threatened and endangered fish.

They also provided a number of hands-on opportunities to keep the kids engaged in learning about our aquatic species in North Dakota.

To cap off the day, there was face painting and kids had the opportunity to decorate their own rock to be on display in the Fish Hatchery rock garden!

I know that learning about the fish was fun, but I believe this guy had more fun actually "catching" some of those rainbow trout right next door at Downstream Campground and Recreation Area. He even caught one large enough to qualify for the North Dakota Game and Fish "Whopper Club"

If you're looking for some "fun with fish" for the entire family, this destination is sure to meet your expectations!
