Now open!

Experience the beauty and wonder of the first two galleries at the State Museum at the North Dakota Heritage Center.

Start your chronological journey through time with the Adaptation Gallery: Geologic Time. Dinosaur tracks in the hallway floor lead you to the story of early North Dakota life and geology, featuring  life-sized skeleton casts of a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops ready to battle.

Follow the footprints symbolizing the arrival of the first people to inhabit North Dakota. The  Innovation Gallery: Early Peoples features more than 1,000 artifacts telling the story of early life on the Northern Plains. Don't miss the exquisite 6x50-foot hand-painted mural of Double Ditch Indian Village in 1550.

Also open are the new Museum Store, new Great Plains Theatre, the renovated Russell Reid Auditorium, select hallway exhibits and more.

The children's exhibit area, The Treehouse, will open in 2014. The final galleries, the Inspiration Gallery: Yesterday and Today, and the Governors Gallery, will open Nov. 2, 2014, in conjunction with North Dakota's 125th anniversary of statehood.

When the Heritage Center expansion project is complete, you'll enjoy 39,000 feet of museum space-nearly double the original gallery size! We're excited to be able to display more from our collections and tell the story of North Dakota in greater depth. See a preview of the State Museum at
