Spring Fishing: Not Necessarily too Nice for Ice

Anglers have an option in the spring in North Dakota: Open water or ice

Rivers throughout North Dakota are opening up, giving anglers (those who brave the cool temperatures) a chance to get out on the open water. But it’s not yet time to pack away the ice fishing gear and break out the open-water rigs everywhere in North Dakota.

While boats have been running up and down the Missouri River, it might be quite a while before they are seen on Devils Lake. Reports of more than 50 inches of ice in some parts earlier this winter means ice anglers should have many more opportunities this year to fish hard water on Devils Lake.
