Tourism Day at the Legislature

Tourism Day at the Legislature is January 12. This is our industry's opportunity to impress upon state lawmakers the importance of tourism to North Dakota's economic well-being. This year's theme is "Tourism Generates Revenue." Tourism-related booths will be open at the state capitol from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Sheri Grossman to reserve booth space. A mid-morning press conference will be held to present new economic impact data on travel to North Dakota in 2015 and to unveil the 2017 travel guide. Lunch will be served to legislators from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a presentation on the new TSA economic impact research by Adam Sacks of Tourism Economics will be held in the Brynhild Haugland Room following the floor session.

Literature Rack Program Deadline Approaching

North Dakota Tourism is gearing up for its 15th year of the Rest Area Literature Distribution Program. Tourism will continue to contract with the Department of Transportation and Presort Plus, Inc. of Bismarck for storage and distribution of brochures. The program already has more than 100 partners and you can participate, too, by contacting Tammy Backhaus at tbackhaus@nd.gov, calling 800-435-5663 or her direct number at 701-328-2526 to receive the partnership agreement and information today. The Tourism Division must have the agreement completed and returned with payment by Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. We will not be able to accommodate requests after the deadline.

Let's Make a Deal!

Everybody is looking for deals, so why not give visitors what they are looking for? A new tool within Tourism's Partner Access gives the public easier access to deals offered by specific entities. Deals also will be accessible through the Deals tab on the website. Now there are two ways to spread the word about unique deals offered by your accommodation or attraction. To use the function, scroll down within your Partner Access listing to the deals section and fill out the required fields. That will place your deals in both locations on the website. Time-sensitive information will drop off at the date selected by you.

Tourism Campaign Wins Award

North Dakota Tourism's public relations campaign “Legendary Star Power,” featuring Josh Duhamel, received the “Gold” award for the 60th annual HSMAI Adrian Awards Competition. Out of more than 1,200 entries submitted this year, this campaign was judged to be exceptional by experts in hospitality, travel, tourism and media. Judges were asked to evaluate each entry based on its own merit and success in achieving its objectives. At least three judges reviewed each entry, and their average score deemed North Dakota Tourism the winner in this year's competition. Kudos to all of our partners that continue to help deliver on our Legendary promise.

Founded in 1957, the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Adrian Awards recognize inspiring best practices in sales and marketing for the hospitality industry. The Adrians represent every segment of the industry, including hotels, airlines, cruise lines, car rental companies, destinations, credit card companies and more. Winners are selected from a field of nearly 1,200 entries by senior industry and media experts and honored at the Adrian Awards Gala.
