Celebrate Summer at These Festivals and Fairs

Make the most of your summer. Plan to take in some – or all – of these events

In America, we celebrate everything from mom to the Great Pumpkin. If it can be feted, we’ll fete it and have a grand old time doing it.

In North Dakota, we do our fair amount of celebrating and we do it year-round. But there is one time of year that we seem to be most active in our festivals and fair, and that is late June and July. It’s natural since the Fourth of July is THE summer holiday with picnics and parties and fireworks and rodeos and on and on. With so much going on, there really is no excuse for missing out on the mid-summer fun.

Make the most of your summer. Plan to take in some – or all – of these events:


Rally in the Valley:Valley City, June 17-18 –Huge parade, Bridge City Cruisers car show and events, including the Bitz Tire Burnout Contest and Balance Beam Contest. Inflatable games for kids, duck race on the Sheyenne River, street dance and Dakota Riders Hill Climb on Sunday.

MayPort Summerfest: Mayville, June 22-25 – Four-day community celebration include parade on June 24.

Roughrider Days Fair and Expo: Dickinson, June 23-July 4 – Dickinson packs a whole lot of things into the celebration, like the three-day rodeo, two nights of auto racing, road races, a parade and fireworks.

Fort Stevenson Frontier Military Days: Garrison, June 24-27 – Experience Dakota Territory living history military encampment with demonstrations and maneuvers of 1860s frontier military life. Participate in skills and crafts of the Indian Wars period.

Ribfest: Devils Lake, June 25 – Ribs, beer garden and live music downtown.

Ashley Sizzling Summer Days: Ashley, June 30-July 2 –  The weekend is jam packed with food, shows, games, music, golf, a poker walk, kids' carnival, scavenger hunt, business kuchen eating contest, photo booth and more.

Mandan Rodeo Days: Mandan, July 2-4 – Three-day top-ranked PRCA rodeo with chuckwagon races, Art in the Park, food vendors, concert and huge July 4 parade. 

Fourth of July Festival and Fireworks: Grand Forks, July 4 – Enjoy an Independence Day celebration with tons of fun events, including a kiddie parade, games, prize giveaways, food concessions, live entertainment and an amazing fireworks display over the Red River.

Sodbuster Days: Fort Ransom, July 8-9 – The Sunne farmstead within Fort Ransom State Park comes to life in a celebration of homesteading life and traditions.

White Cloud Festival: Jamestown, July 8-9 – Celebrate the famous albino buffalo that was raised and lived in the herd at the Buffalo Museum. Events include a Wild West shoot-out, car show, parade, street dance and more.

German Days: Bismarck, July 13-15 – Gather in the heart of the city to celebrate Bismarck's German culture with authentic music, beer, activities and, of course, food.

North Dakota Ukrainian Festival: Dickinson, July 21-23 – Celebrate the region’s ethnic heritage with concerts, Ukrainian dancing, ethnic meals, religious services, workshops and much more.

Fargo Blues Festival: Fargo, July 28-29 – A two-day, 12-band, blues explosion with world-class bands, great food, beverages and on-site camping at Newman Outdoor Field.

Taylor Horsefest: Taylor, July 29-30 – All things about horses and by horsepower.
